Charles was born to the late Arthur Matthew and Mary Helen Collins on January 7, 1948. He attended public school in McDowell County and was a graduate of Glenwood High School. He served in the US Merchant Marines and was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the United States Army.
In addition to his parents, Charles is also preceded in death by his grandparents Charles Luther and Vira (Arrowood) Dowdle and Marshall and Elizabeth (Hubbard) Collins. Charles is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Collins Moricle and her husband, Steve of Greensboro, NC; two nephews, Matthew Samuel Moricle of Brooklyn, New York; and John Thomas Moricle of Raleigh, NC; and numerous close friends and acquaintances.
Charles worked as a logger and farmer his entire life. He enjoyed the outdoors and was a hard worker. Charles spent his days in the fields around McDowell County farming soy bean and corn crops. Farming was his passion. Charles appreciated those that worked with him and cherished his close friendships.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at Kirksey Funeral Home in Marion, NC. A Funeral Service will follow at the funeral home at 2:00 PM with Rev. Jim Brewer, Rev. Jimmy Upton and Dr. Dennis Love officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors by Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard and North Carolina National Guard.
