Sharon Kay Volk was called home to our Lord on Monday, December 5th, 2022 at the age of 74. She died peacefully and was surrounded by loved ones. Born June 9th, 1948 in Cheyenne, Wyoming to Russell and Shirley Vaudrey, she attended East High School and graduated 1966. In 1967, she moved to San Jose, CA where she attended San Jose State University and met the love of her life, Loren Volk. Together, they brought 3 children to their marriage.
In 1970, Sharon began her elementary school teaching career and continued teaching in Cobb County after moving to Marietta, GA. In 2009 after being diagnosed with Lymphoma, she retired from 20 years of teaching at East Valley Elementary. Throughout her teaching career, she touched the lives of many grateful students and their families. She was animated by a firm belief in the ability of all her students to succeed. Their triumphs were among her greatest joys.
As a lifelong volunteer and member of the Methodist Church, she was active in many church groups. She was best known for coordinating the annual craft fair, Ribbons and Holly. Sharon had an infectious smile, warm heart, and a clever sense of humor. She touched many lives with her generosity and passion for life.
Sharon battled with cancer for 13 years and during that time continued to stay positive and show the utmost respect for her doctors at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, MD Anderson Cancer Center and Atlanta Cancer Care. Through the numerous cancer trials Sharon underwent; her hope was that others might be cured.
Preceded in death by her mother, Shirley Vaudrey, and her brother, Daniel Vaudrey. She is survived by her father, Russell Vaudrey, her husband, Loren Volk, her children, Brian Volk (Katherine), Stephanie Miller (Matthew), and Matthew Volk (Marie), and her seven grandchildren, Andrew Volk, Hailey Miller, Lauren Volk, Benjamin Miller, Daniel Volk, Caleb Volk, and Robert Volk. She has had many cousins whom she was close with and who loved her deeply.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 20th, at Mt. Bethel Church with a reception to follow.
