Ruth Monetta Tanner

Ruth was born in Kannapolis, NC to Mary Belle Diggs Tanner and Chester Edward Tanner. Growing up with her younger sister Carol they moved to Georgia as young children. When Carol was having trouble learning to read in 1st grade, Ruth encouraged her and taught her how to read.

Ruth graduated from Marietta High School and went to Georgia State College for Women receiving a degree in biology.

She worked in a school for a short time and later received a Library Science degree from Georgia State University. She then worked as a librarian for many years, often putting her biology degree to use fielding frequent science questions.

She was actively involved at church in North Carolina and then at Roswell Street Baptist church, having been brought to Christ at age 10.

Ruth had many hobbies including planting and nurturing flowers and sewing. She also enjoyed taking pictures and the family has many albums of her memories and travels. At any family gathering you could count on Ruth having her camera and taking pictures. As the world moved to digital photography she always wanted to see our latest snaps, although she lamented the lack of physical pictures to hold and leaf through.

Ruth enjoyed all of her nieces and nephews and their children, often serving as another grandmother to the little ones.

In later life Ruth enjoyed living in the small community of assisted living where she was often found helping other residents with basic tasks. When she was no longer up to that she was still popular with her "across the hall" neighbors and enjoyed activities with the group.

Ruth was pre-deceased by her parents and survived by her sister Carol Tanner Ball, her nephew Gregory (Ronda) Ball, her niece Melanie (Bruce) Dillahunty and numerous great nieces and nephews.
