Her children rise up and call her blessed.
Proverbs 31:28
Our dear Myrna Rita Williams, also known as Mommy, Nana, Aunt Myrna, Auntie Rita, Cool Myrn, Pasquanna, the life of the party and Artie’s Rose in Spanish Harlem passed away on March 10, 2020. Our “Rose” was born on April 26, 1942 to David and Leardis Johnson in Waycross, Georgia. She spent most of her young life in Detroit and New York and graduated from Commercial High School in Manhattan, NY. She worked for Citibank for over 30 years and retired in 1999. Myrna Rita and Artie first dated with their best friends at the Penn Relays. She fell in love with him and his close-knit family which was most important to her. They married in 1964 and shared 46 beautiful years of marriage until his death in 2010. They had their only daughter Lisa in 1966 , loved parenting and loved grandparenting even more. The nickname Nana is a testament to her life as a “Nana” to all.
Artie and Rita (as he called her) retired at 50 and 55 years old and enjoyed many wonderful years helping with their grandchildren Brendon and Chris, their pride and joy. They relocated to Georgia to be only five miles away and dedicated their lives to sporting practices and events, traveling frequently and living for family and friends. Myrna continued her love for travel as a widow and also enjoyed working out and many activities at St. Ann’s church including the WHO group, bowling and making baptismal gowns.
Myrna laid to rest her loving husband Arthur C. Williams and her brother James Johnson. She is remembered by her daughter and family Romell, Lisa, Brendon and Christopher Ashby, her sister Ola Walker, her two brothers Tyrone Stewart and Lionel “Skip” Stewart, and her 95-year-old mother, Leardis Wingfield. She loved and embraced all her immediate and extended family and friends. They are all family.
Myrna Rita represented strength, love, commitment and the biggest smile no matter what. She loved to party and she will be celebrated on Thursday, March 19, 2020 at Catholic Church of St. Ann at 2:00 PM.
