Mary Jo Hardin Mills, age 94, passed into God’s nearer presence on Thursday, December 12, 2024. She was a life-long member of Maple Avenue United Methodist Church, where she served many roles. She was Church Hostess for many years, leading a team of people to prepare Wednesday night suppers and other special meals. Along with her late husband, James, she served as church youth counselor for more than 20 years, as well as co-presidents of the Marietta Junior High School PTA and the Marietta High School Band Booster Club. They also held season tickets to Marietta High School football and Georgia Tech football and basketball. Together they missed only one game of Marietta football in 58 years of marriage and were charter members of the True Blue Club. She will be most remembered for her ability to welcome friends and family around her table. Her cooking skills are legend and many of her recipes continue to be handed down through the generations.
She is predeceased by her parents, Roy and Sudie Hardin, and her brothers Alton, Roy Jr (Wimp), Jim, and Dan. She is survived by her son Scott (Carla), grandchildren Brigham, Emma (Hunter), Joseph, and Logan (Erin), great grandchildren Sawyer and Lucy, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Mayes Ward Dobbins Historic Marietta Chapel on Monday, December 23rd, from 12:00-1:30PM. Interment will follow at 2:00PM at Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the James and Mary Mills Scholarship Fund through the Marietta Schools Foundation: https://bit.ly/MSFMills
