The first year is the hardest for the family. I think of Toni often. They lived in Mobile a long time and I   have fond memories of Lonnie especially being a very loyal Alabama fan when he worked for the 
Alabama Power Company in Mobile. Those memories were good memories from years back.

So sorry Toni and David to just hear of Lonnies passing.  My coolest memories was how he loved working with David on the backstroke and cheering him to victories.  Lonnie also was a great athlete competing against me in swimming staying stroke for stroke with me even though I was 20 years younger.  I will cherish the many memories we shared.

Dearest Toni, I was heartbroken to hear of Lonnie’s passing.  He was truly one of the best men I knew. His class on ‘Angels’ truly changed my life. I’d never looked at ‘the Angel of the Lord’ as he explained it.  He truly showed me Jesus presence throughout the Old Testament. 
 I loved to talk Alabama football with Lonnie!  He’d get so excited over the big wins!  I have missed you both since you moved and I’m so sad we couldn’t be with you at this very sad time. Prayers for all of you. Love, Pam Stephens

and talking football.

My condolences to Toni and David. . Lonnie was a wonderful man who was a great friend and coworker. I enjoyed working with him. He was always upbeat and a joy to be around.  Will miss him.



As good a man and as pleasant a fellow as there could be. He always had that “big grin” regardless of the circumstances. He did MORE than his part to make Alabama Power Company, Mobile Division a very special place to work. May you rest in the light perpetual dear man. And, RTR Lonnie.

I am truly sorry about Lonnie’s passing. I know that he was a wonderful husband and great brother. I remember him from his teaching Bible class at Regency church. I have missed him since you relocated to Georgia. 

May the Holy Spirit give you peace for tomorrow and strength for each following day.

Lonnie was a wonderful friend. I was his roommate as well as his engineering study partner for the last couple of years that I was at UA. One of my favorite stories is traveling with Lonnie in his car. It had a hole in the floorboard where you could literally see the street beneath the car. One day Lonnie made a quick left turn and his books and slide rule hit the floor and his slide rule went out the hole and he ran over it with his rear tire. Slide rules are not meant for that abuse.  This was before the electronic calculator days so it could have been worse.

I am deeply saddened by Lonnie's leaving this earth and joining the spirits in heaven. He was almost always smiling. I am saddened for Toni and Janet and the family. May you have many good, funny and inspirational memories. Bless your hearts and your lives. Your families have a special place in my life.

We,my family and I, are sorry for your Loss. Lonnie and I were coworkers at APCO in Mobile, AL.

Lonnie became my brother-in-law in 1970 and was more like a brother.  We had many good times together fishing or just talking Alabama football.  (If you wanted a lengthy conversation with him, you had to talk fishing or Alabama football.)  In the early years we would play basketball at the YMCA.  He was good basketball player and swimmer.  He always had an upbeat positive attitude and was fun to be around.  I will truly miss him.
Lonnie was a true Christian and a leader in the Church.  He was an elder for several years at the University Blvd Church of Christ in Mobile.   He had an impressive knowledge of the Old Testament history and taught classes in Sunday Bible school.


I knew Lonnie for over 30 years and worked with him most of that time. Most people have their friends and then they have their enemies. I don't believe Lonnie had a single enemy. He was just that fine of a person.

I worked with Lonnie at Alabama Power Company in Mobile during the 1970s and 1980s.  Lonnie dearly loved his Alabama Crimson Tide, and, as a graduate of the University of Notre Dame, I dearly love my Fighting Irish. The Tide and the Irish played some epic games back in the day.  Some of my most vivid memories of Lonnie involve verbal sparring in the Mobile Division Office break room among me and Lonnie, Hugh Causey (building custodian), and Billy Acker (co-worker), all of whom were rabid Tide fans, about the relative merits of our respective teams.  It was so much fun, especially because the Irish took care of business back then (not like today's team, however).  I remember Lonnie as genuine and fun-loving, and I will truly miss him.
