Janice Jones Cook of Watkinsville, GA, passed away peacefully in Marietta, GA, on June 2nd. Janice was born in Aberdeen, Mississippi, on June 19, 1942, to Stephen and Maurine Jones. After graduating high school in Montevallo, AL, Janice attended Auburn University, where she met her future husband of 59 years, Jim Cook of Montgomery, AL. While at Auburn, Janice was a cheerleader and a member of the Phi Mu Sorority.
Janice graduated from Auburn with a Bachelor of Science in Education and was a teacher of Business Education in Jacksonville, FL, and Atlanta, GA. Later in life, she worked for many years as an office manager in the healthcare industry.
As the wife of a Navy officer, Janice spent time traveling the world during her husband’s deployments and always felt a keen sense of duty, honor, and respect for her country and its armed forces. She always cherished the lifelong bonds and friendships made during their time in service.
Janice and Jim had one son, Brandon, in 1975, whom they raised predominantly in Watkinsville. Janice was always supportive in Brandon’s life, volunteering at his school, attending baseball games and extracurricular activities, and serving as Den Mother in his Cub Scout Pack. In addition to her husband and son, Janice found great joy in time spent with her two grandsons and her daughter-in-law. She and Jim were always there for holidays, school orchestra concerts, Scouting events, and time spent together at the lake.
A devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and mother-in-law, Janice is survived by her son, Brandon, her daughter-in-law, Karen, her grandsons, Holden and Nathan, and her sisters, Gayle Taylor and Doris Graves. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Rod Taylor, Russ Taylor, Laura MacAdam, and Julie Bowman. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jim.
A visitation for Janice will be held Monday, June 24, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at H.M. Patterson & Son-Canton Hill, 1157 Old Canton Road NE, Marietta, GA 30068.
A graveside committal service will occur Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at 1:30 PM Georgia National Cemetery, 1080 Scott Hudgens Dr, Canton, GA 30114.

She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by those she held so close in her heart.
