Charles Monroe Brown, 89, of Marietta, passed away June 27, 2012. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 30, at the Mayes Ward-Dobbins Chapel, Marietta, with Dr. William Camp and Diane Rose officiating. Interment will follow at Kennesaw Memorial Park, Marietta with a Masonic ceremony.
Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Elizabeth “Lib” Brown, his son, Charles Mike Brown, and brothers, Claude & Carl Brown. He is survived by his brother, Paul Brown; daughter, Joan Pittman & husband, Ronald; grandchildren, Mikie Brown & wife, Hye, Andy Brown & wife, Liz, Annie Gentles, Vikki Betsill, Brian Pittman & wife, Robin, and Katy Pittman; great-grandchildren, Maddie & Gracie Brown, Ashley, Noah & Piper Pittman; several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Brown was born in Murphy, NC, on July 5, 1922 and grew up in Blue Ridge, GA. He moved to Marietta in 1946. He was very active in the “Doers of the Word” Sunday School Class at Roswell St. Baptist Church, and they were one of the first members of the church when it was in a little white house. Mr. Brown was an active Mason of 55-plus years at Lodge 33 and the IBEW Local 613 for 55-plus years. He worked at Lockheed, Ford Motor Co., Nabisco, and retired from American Can Co. in 1985. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather & uncle who had the patience of a saint. He loved fishing & deer hunting and never met a stranger – a true southern gentleman. All he ever wanted was “kind words and icewater” and always said, “the impossible just takes a little longer.”
