Betty Jean Hayes King of Marietta passed away at home peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus on April 8, 2024 having just recently turned 91. She joins her husband Harold Leon King and many other family and friends that preceded her. She and Leon both graduated from Marietta High School with Betty being the Salutatorian. They married soon after in 1952 and had 4 children: Terry Leon (Patti), Randy Harold (Tina), Mickey Eugene (Lyn) and LaTricia King Payne (Scott). She was a very supportive wife and homemaker for years and went back to school once the kids were all in school and got her Nursing degree. She was a critical care/recovery/ICU nurse at Kennestone full and part time. In her later years, she volunteered with hospice care. Betty and Leon loved to travel and took trips all over the world. They also were avid tennis players with Mom playing ALTA for many years. Nobody put up a better lob than her! They became snow skiers in their 70s – relishing the free lift tickets for folks their age!! After Leon’s passing in 2014, Mom lived as full of a life as possible with the last 6 years at Winnwood Retirement living independently. She loved Winnwood so much she should have been part of the sales team! Betty stayed so busy, you almost had to have an appointment to see her. She had a loving heart and loved to meet new people and learn all about them. She was very proud of her family and introduced them to anyone and everyone. The last several years, Betty shared part of her love with special friend Mike Burns at Winnwood until he passed in late 2023. She loved to love and did so to the very end with her friends and family. She was a planner and most of her upcoming service was well thought out by her in advance. It will be a little about her, but mostly about worshipping our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Betty was born on March 17, 1933 to Edgar McCoy Hayes and Inez Sparks Hayes who preceded her in death along with her husband Harold Leon and son Randy Harold. She is survived by her brother Jerry Hayes (LaJuan), the other children listed above and grandchildren Savannah King Tahler, Brad King, Annabelle King and Jordan Brown Mills. She also was blessed to have three great grandchildren Peter, Benjamin and Ruth Kathryn Thaler. They all spent some sweet loving time with her in her final days. There are also many nephews and nieces that loved their Aunt Betty. She will be missed by so many.
Visitation will be at Mayes Ward Funeral Home in Marietta on Wednesday April 10 from 6-8PM and her service will also be at Mayes Ward at 12:00 Noon with family briefly receiving friends from 11-11:30.
In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution in her name to Marietta Camp Meeting at 153 Gainesborough Walk, Dallas, Ga 30157 (Treasurer) or Must Ministries at 1297 Bells Ferry Road, Marietta, GA 30066
