Rita M. Valentine

Rita M. Valentine, age 78, of Marengo, Illinois passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at Northwestern Huntley Hospital surrounded by her family. She was born on July 13, 1944 in Belvidere, Illinois to the late Francis and Frances Schneider. She married Barry Valentine on October 1, 1983 and spent 37 wonderful years together.

Rita spent over 30 years working for the McHenry County Department of Health, where she retired from in May of 2011. As a couple, they volunteered with the McHenry County Historical Society. She was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Marengo and was an active member in the choir and social committee. In her free time, she enjoyed coloring, reading, and camping.

Rita is survived by her daughter Adrienne (Floyd) Gardner; her sister Barbara (Bill) Brandt; her sister-in-laws Janie Schneider and Linda Christell; her brother-in-laws Tom (Rose) Valentine and Don Valentine; several nieces and nephews; and her special family Jarek (Justyna) Kusmierz and their children Jessica and Justin. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her brother James Schneider.

Rita's family would like to extend their appreciation to the doctors and staff at Florence Nursing Home and Northwestern Huntley Hospital.

A visitation for Rita will be held Thursday, July 13, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Marengo-Union Funeral Home, 505 E Grant Hwy, Marengo, Illinois 60152. A funeral mass will occur Friday, July 14, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 323 N Taylor St, Marengo, Illinois 60152. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
