He was born August 8, 1921 in Kennebec, South Dakota to Clarence and Anna (McGee) Whitney. Milt served in the 8th Army Air Force from 1943-1945. He was in the 379th Bomb Group and was stationed in Kimbolton, England. On May 25, 1945 he married Regina Sweeney in Kennebec.
Work was a very important part of Milt’s life, he worked until he was 80 years old. After retirement he worked on small engines for neighbors and friends. He also enjoyed gardening and raising chickens on his son Bill’s farm.
He is survived by his children, Barbara (Donald) Bland, Melvin (Kristine) Whitney, Sue (John) Cannegieter, Lorna (Michael) Reschke, and Bill Whitney; his grandchildren, Kathy (Mike) Kirane, Kenny (Julie) Zenter, Donnie (Dana) Bland, Katie Whitney, Monica (Jeff) Diedrich, Justin Randall, Elizabeth Randall, Bonnie Cannegieter, Erin Reschke, and Craig Reschke; his great-grandchildren, J.D., Jack, Emily, Amberlee, Kenny, Brooke, Brittney, Brennon, Robbie, Gage, Devon, Leah, Jeff, Kerry, Ashley, Nicole, and Mikey; and his special great-great granddaughter, Aubrey.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Regina; his grandson, Mike Cannegieter; and his siblings.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8pm on Wednesday, December 11 at Marengo-Union Funeral Home, 505 E. Grant Hwy., Marengo. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30am on Thursday, December 12 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 323 N. Taylor St., Marengo.
Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, masses may be given in Milt’s honor.
