Frank E Grossen

Frank was one of five children born to John and Caroline Grossen of Marengo on December 30, 1935. On September 30, 1961, Frank married Mary Gehringer of Hampshire and together they raised three children.

In 1971, Frank started his own business – Frank E. Grossen Construction: Building and Remodeling. He was a master carpenter having built many homes in Marengo and the surrounding communities including the home where he and Mary raised their children and lived until his death. He also built his daughter’s home in Marengo, his brother’s home in Marengo, and his brother-in-law’s home in Sycamore. Anyone who worked with Frank or employed him to do work, knew of the quality Frank put into his craft. He enjoyed his work and took great pride in seeing the fruits of his labor.

Frank served in the U.S. Army, had a love of animals – especially birds and squirrels, and enjoyed traveling by car across the U.S. with his beloved family.

Frank is survived by Mary, his loving wife of 59 years; his children – Scott Grossen of Shoreview, MN, Kelly and Todd Hall of Marengo, and Amy and Todd Egan of Lake in the Hills; his grandsons – Cameron and Cole Egan; his brother John Grossen and sisters Nancy and Lilly Grossen all of Chippewa Falls, WI; his half-sister Adine; his in-laws – Fritz and Alice Gehringer of Cherry Valley, Hank and Judy Gehringer of Hampshire, Ray and Janice Gehringer of Sycamore, and Jack Green of Ingleside; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Charlie Grossen, Mary’s parents, and Mary’s siblings – Dorothy and Irwin Jordahl, Al and Nancy Gehringer, George Gehringer, Helen Gehringer, and Carol Green.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, from 10am to Noon at the Marengo-Union Funeral Home at 505 E. Grant Hwy., Marengo. A prayer service at the funeral home will follow with burial immediately after at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Marengo. Due to current guidelines only 50 people are allowed in the funeral home at one time. Facial coverings are required.
