Douglas K. Johnston, age 95 passed away on September 5, 2023. He was born and grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota where his love of boats and spending time on the water began. He was also an avid stamp collector beginning at a young age and collecting throughout his life. After graduating from Murray High School he earned a B.B.A. at the University of Minnesota. He served his country in the Philippines during the Korean conflict. He served with the Ninth Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 9. After his service, he worked in the office for the Williams Brothers Pipeline, the Minnesota State Fair, and in purchasing for Sperry-Univac until he retired in 1978. Retirement made more time for his next career in real estate and rental housing. During this time he also served as President of the greater Longview Apartment Association in Longview, Texas. He lived in Longview, Texas until he retired again in 2015 to enjoy life in Marco Island full time. There he enjoyed daily morning swims; the daily newspaper especially the sports section as a lifelong Minnesota fan in every sport, and the comics; being part of the Marco Island American Legion; and membership in the Marco Island Yacht Club.
He is survived by his wife Barbara Johnston, and her son Stephen Scott (Lori Scott); his daughters: Nancy Johnston (Adam Chowaniec) and Sandra Johnston (Keith Jones); granddaughters: Elizabeth Jones (Tristan Nash) and Gillian Jones (Mike Sevilla) ; and great grandchildren: Paloma, Benecio and Silas. He will be missed by all and a private family service is planned. Memorial donations may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children which was an organization that was important to Doug throughout his life.
