Chester V. Stewart, 87, of Marco Island, FL passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 22, 2018. Chester (Chet or C.V. for many) was born in Winchester, CT to Vance J. Stewart and Gladys (Holmes) Stewart and grew up in New Hartford, CT before joining the U.S. Navy in 1947. He proudly served for 22 years as an Aviation Mechanic before retiring honorably in 1969. It was fortuitous duty orders to Newport, RI that brought C.V. to meet his beloved wife Margaret O. (Hendry) Stewart. They were happily married for 56 years, and lived in many wonderful locations including Freeport, ME; Hamilton, Bermuda; NAS Midway Islands; Sunnyvale, CA; and Windsor Locks, CT before retiring to Marco Island, FL for the last 20 years. Chester was a humble man, and had an uncanny ability to fix anything that was broken and make everybody laugh. He loved rooting on his Navy Midshipmen and Florida Gators.
Chester was predeceased by his loving wife Margaret O. Stewart, his brother James Stewart, and his sister Drusilla (Stewart) Goetz and Grandson Korey M. Harrington Jr. He leaves behind his children, Karen M. (Stewart) Harrington of Springfield, MA and Joseph S. Stewart & wife Megan M. (Citarella) of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren Kevin M. Harrington, Jr. of Boston, MA and Devon M. Stewart & Chase J. Stewart of Atlanta, GA; and great-grandson Korey Harrington Jr. of Springfield, MA. He is survived by his older brother Calvin Stewart and his wife Marie and many loving nieces and nephews.
The family will have a memorial burial Mass @ the Memorial Walk of San Marco Catholic Church on So. Collier Blvd. on Friday March 16th at 10:00 AM with a reception in the church hall immediately following. Memorial donations may be made in the name of Chester V. Stewart to the Florida chapter of the American Cancer Society.
