Peter Benjamin Loveland, of Marblehead, MA, passed away on October 19, 2016, following a brief illness. Born June 24, 1947, in Plainfield, New Jersey, Peter lived most of his life in Marblehead. He was the husband of Kathleen (Salley) Loveland, and the son of the late Robert and Aletha W. Loveland. He was pre-deceased by his two brothers, Robert W. and Donald H. Loveland, and his sister, Jacqueline L. Thomson.
His enduring love of the ocean led him to enlist in the U.S. Navy, where he served for 6 years in the Submarine Service, and later led him to pursue a career in boat building. After working in a number of occupations over the years, Peter obtained a Masters Certificate in Network Administration from Boston University in 1999. He retired after working for nearly 7 years as a Client IT Technical Specialist at the Solution Design Center of Excellence at IBM Global Technology Services.
Peter was a Charter Member and Plank Owner of the Marblehead Base of the U.S. Submarine Veterans, Inc., a member of the Philanthropic Lodge F. & A.M, a member of the Gerry No. 5 VFA, and an associate member of VFW Post 2005, all of Marblehead.
Peter is survived by his wife of 47 years, Kathleen, of Marblehead, and his son Benjamin and his wife, Caroline, and was the proud grandfather of Emma Rhys Loveland. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Ann M. Loveland, of Salem, and his brother-in-law, William O. Thomson, of Kennebunk, Maine, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held in St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 135 Lafayette Street, Marblehead on Monday, October 24 at 11AM. Visiting hours will be held at the Eustis and Cornell Funeral Home, 142 Elm Street, Marblehead on Sunday, October 23 from 1-4PM. A Masonic Service will take place at 3:30PM. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests expressions of sympathy be made to Care Dimensions Hospice, 75 Sylvan Street, Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
