Mrs. Katherine “Kay” Howes, 98, Lynn (formerly of Swampscott), passed away peacefully on Monday, November 29, in her residence at the Lynn Home for Elderly Persons. She was the beloved wife of the late William Howes, with whom she shared 37 years of marriage.
Born March 20, 1923 in New York City and raised in upper state New York; she graduated from Troy Business College and went on to work at Montgomery Ward as a secretary, prior to her marriage. During WWII she worked for Curtis-Wright in New Jersey as a typist. Following the war she became a mother and homemaker; and the family moved to Connecticut where she remained for the next three decades.
After the death of her spouse, she moved to Swampscott Ma to be closer to family, which now included grandchildren, She was a member of Old North Church in Marblehead, and it was there that she enjoyed being part of the Women’s Church Group. She was also a member of the Swampscott Senior Center, where she enjoyed socializing and participating in field trips.
Katherine leaves behind her son William R. Howes and his wife Wendy of Swampscott; 2 grandsons Alexander W Howes of Quincy, William G. Howes and his wife Tauni of Minnesota; and a great-grandson Jack of Minnesota.
Katherine is to be interned with a private graveside service at Mountain Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport Ct. She will be buried alongside of her late husband Willam, in the Spring 2022, when the family can safely gather.
