Mr. Albert (Albie) E. Merrill passed away after a brief illness on Tuesday, April 12th at the age of 94 on what would have been the 69th anniversary of his marriage to his late wife, Jane (Fuller) Merrill. Albie loved to dance with Jane and his daughters and granddaughters at all the family gatherings. He loved watching football and talking about his days as a 140lb center for Marblehead High.
Albie was a life-long Marblehead resident until he moved to Danvers to live with his daughter Nancy and her family. Albie was a proud Marine, having served in the South Pacific during World War II. He worked for the Town of Marblehead until his retirement and was a skilled mason. He helped to build or rebuild much of the stonework at Waterside Cemetery and Marblehead’s historic cemeteries.
Albie is survived by his two daughters, Susan and her husband Richard Gillespie, and Nancy and her husband Alfred (Jay) Hill, his four grandchildren, Tracy Fenton, Brandee Prevost, Jayson Hill, and Taylor Hill, and four great-grandchildren, Jordan Shefferman, Brady Fenton, Jacob Curtin, and Amelia Hill. He is greatly loved and will be missed by his family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at the Dr. Arland A. Dirlam Chapel in Waterside Cemetery, 294 West Shore Drive, Marblehead on Saturday, May 14 at 11AM. Burial with honors will immediately follow.
