William Archie Bates, 88, was born August 30, 1931 in Trafalgar, Arkansas. He was raised by his mother and father, Effie and Archie Bates, Sr. Along with three sisters Earlene Corbin, Jean Hurt and Marine Scott and a brother Ervin Bates.
He had a happy and adventurous childhood.
William enlisted into the Marine Corps in 1951. He served active duty in the Korean war and was honorably discharged in 1954. During his time in the Marine Corps, he met a beautiful young lady, Beatrice Padilla. They were married on September 6, 1952 and began their new chapter together in Los Angeles, California.
During their marriage they had two daughters, Patricia Ann and Irma Marie.
While in Los Angeles, William became a recognized Los Angeles Fire Fighter from 1959 to 1986. William enjoyed spending time with his family and was an avid fisherman.
He then retired and moved to Marble Falls, Texas in 1986.
He is survived by his loving wife, Beatrice and his two daughters Patricia Ann Bandy &
Son-In-Law Linzy Bandy and Irma Kesselring. His grandchildren Charles (Chuck) Stackhouse, Jr & wife Girlie Stackhouse, Therese Soto & husband Eli Soto. Sandra Clarke & husband James Clarke, Linda McCollum & husband David McCollum and Laura McNeill & husband Aaron McNeill. His great grandchildren Katelynn McCollum, Hunter Lanning, Florence Stackhouse, Brooke McNeill, Aubrey McNeill and Morgan Clarke. Sisters Marine Scott, Jean Hurt and Earlene Corbin & husband Gerald and brother Ervin Bates & wife Betty Gail.
He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and other family members that loved him so much.
