Virginia Ruth Beale was called to her Lord on October 19, 2010. She was born to Dr. Oscar and Mary Elizabeth Sikes on February 13, 1918, in Aurora, Missouri. She grew up in Aurora with her three brothers: Joe, Don, and Rex, and two sisters: Maxine and Charlotte who are all deceased. Two siblings, Vivian and Carl, died in infancy. They were a loving and close knit family. Their early interest and talent in music led to the formation of the Sikes Family Orchestra which performed at numerous public and private events during their youthful years. The Sikes Orchestra was a life-long source of pride for each member of the family.
Virginia married Carroll Wesley Beale on September 15, 1937, and celebrated 73 years of love and devotion. She lived most of her adult life in Aurora where she was a devoted homemaker, a nurturing mother, and an energetic volunteer in numerous church, charitable, and community service organizations including the First Baptist Church in Aurora, Meals on Wheels for 22 years, PTA, and the philanthropic educational organization, PEO. Although a willing worker, Virginia modestly preferred a quiet “behind the scenes” role devoting her time and energies to her family. Virginia and Carroll had two daughters, Carolyn and Mary Beth, who both became schoolteachers inspired by their parents’ example of community service.
Virginia displayed her creative talents through skilled sewing, antique refinishing, and interior decorating. She was an avid reader in her prime years, a habit that evolved into being a keen crossword puzzler in her later years.
Virginia and Carroll were widely traveled in the United States and Europe. While they had many memorable trips, they particularly enjoyed visiting daughter Carolyn in England and daughter Mary Beth in Italy and Hawaii.
In 1992, Virginia and Carroll purchased a home in Blue Lake Estates located in Horseshoe Bay, Texas. Initially, they were “snow birds,” but in 1997 they moved to Texas permanently. They joined The Church at Horseshoe Bay and quickly became active in the Blue Lake community as service volunteers and avid golfers.
Survivors include her husband, Carroll; daughter, Carolyn St.Clair and husband Colonel Gilbert St.Clair of Georgetown, Texas; daughter, Mary Beth Beale assisting in the home; grandson, Grant St.Clair and wife Angela St.Clair of Albuquerque, New Mexico; great grandchildren, Staff Sergeant Geoffrey St.Clair and wife India St.Clair of Hill AFB, Utah; Vicki and Nicole St.Clair of Albuquerque, New Mexico; great-great grandchildren, Alexis and Gaige St.Clair of Hill AFB, Utah.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 27, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at The Church at Horseshoe Bay, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Church at Horseshoe Bay, P.O. Box 8259, Horseshoe Bay, Texas, 78657, or to the charity of your choice.
