Chris was born on January 16, 1950 in Dallas, Texas and was one of five children in her family. She was a big sister, little sister, daughter and her family stayed at the core of her heart all of her life. Chris graduated from Bryan Adams High School in 1968. In 1968 she met her husband Aubrey “Duffy” Grant and they were married on October 10, 1969. Chris worked as an administrative assistant while they lived in Dallas and began their lives together. In 1988 the family moved to Mansfield, Texas and raised their family there. Chris continued her administrative career in the medical field and her attention to detail and ability to work with others led to her success throughout her entire life. Chris was a loving mother to her children Kenny and Katie who were the most important people in the world to her. She LOVED her crosswords, puzzles, Agatha Christie books, and Perry Mason. She loved a good mystery and she just knew that her perfect job would have been a forensic scientist. Chris was funny, so very funny. Her quick wit and ability to find the humor in everyday situations was infectious and brightened the room she was in. She also had a love of flamingos and pigs and every one she saw was considered as an addition to her collection.
In 2015 Chris and Duffy retired to Horseshoe Bay, Texas. Chris loved to be outside on a porch swing and work with her flower pots. She didn’t meet a weed she didn't pick and the Bluebonnets and Texas Wildflowers made her smile. Chris would tell you her favorite time of year was the fall with the crisp air, changing leaves and football on in the background. Sweet tea, ice cream with potato chips, and Graham Cracker Cookies were her friends and her love of chips and salsa was undeniable. Chris had the ability to bring a room to life and her irreplaceable spark will truly be missed.
Chris is preceded in death by her parents Walter E. Mabrey and Ola Mae Mabrey, her sister Linda Harris, and brother Walter L. Mabrey. Chris is survived by her husband of 51 years, Duffy Grant, children Kenneth and Jennifer Grant (The Hills, Texas), Katherine and Nick Hale (Fort Worth, Texas) 4 grandchildren; Jackson Grant, Caroline Grant, Garrett Grant and Allyson Hale, sister and spouse Karen and Scotty Myrick (Combine, Texas), sisters in law and spouses Penny and Billy Stephenson (Killeen, Texas) and Billie and Richard Geist (Arlington, Texas), and sister in law Linda Mabrey (Frisco, Texas), as well as numerous nieces, nephews and her many friends from First United Methodist Church of Marble Falls.
