Services celebrating his life will be held at the Church of Horseshoe Bay, Saturday afternoon, July 30, at 2:00. An ice-cream social will follow in the church’s Fellowship Hall. Internment at the Horseshoe Bay Mausoleum will follow.
Fred and his wife, Connie, were realtors in Horseshoe Bay for 31 years, primarily in their own offices at Barringtons of Horseshoe Bay. Based on their professionalism, leadership, and sales results, they were honored in 2006 by the Highland Lakes Association of Realtors with its inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award.
Fred and his twin brother, Eddie, were born on September 23, 1931, in Throckmorton, Texas, the tenth and eleventh children of R.W. and Myrtle Haney Barrington. After graduating from Throckmorton High School, he headed off to Murray State Junior College in Tishomingo, Oklahoma, on an athletic scholarship for two years, and then to Midwestern University in Wichita Falls, Texas, again on an athletic scholarship.
At Midwestern, he met and married Connie McRee. They shared 63 years of love and devotion, gifts passed on to three daughters and four grandchildren.
Prior to moving to Horseshoe Bay in 1983, Fred was affiliated with Tenneco Oil Company in Monahans, Houston, Denver, and Corpus Christi, and owned Fred Barrington Chevrolet in Lamesa, Texas. From his college days to his days as a successful businessman, he readily accepted leadership roles in the community. In Lamesa, he served as president of the Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club; in Horseshoe Bay, he served as President of the Highland Lakes Board of Realtors.
Fred will be greatly missed by his family: wife, Connie; his daughters and their families, Candace Barrington and Mike Shea (New Haven, Connecticut), Tom Waldrop (Alexandria, Virginia), Katherine Waldrop (Tamuning, Guam), Crystal Barrington and Pat Black (Horseshoe Bay), Connie D., John, Constance, and Caroline Deering (Southlake, Texas); and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents and brothers (Robert, Willie Raymond, Ralph, Tommy, Steve, and Eddie) and sisters (Rosa, Martha, Ruby, Marie, and Katie).
Contributions in his memory may be made to the Music Ministry at the Church of Horseshoe Bay, PO Box 8295, HSB 78657.
