Born January 23, 1935 transitioned to heaven on October 6, 2022
Happy was born to Frank and Myrtle Fluitt at home on a family ranch in Burnet County. From an early age he loved animals and the outdoors. He was blessed with many siblings: brothers, Vernon and Malcolm (lifelong best friends), and sisters Alene, Olga Ruth, and Lucille. He attended Tarleton College and graduated from Texas A&M Veterinary School with his DVM in 1965.
Texas wasn’t big enough for him to find a bride, so he found himself regularly driving to Arizona to secure his bride, Ms. Sue Nell McCracken. Soon after marriage Happy started Veterinary school. While in school, Happy & Sue had their first son, Frank.
Happy started his veterinary career in La Grange, TX taking the reins from his cousin Floyd Gunn, DVM. He soon expanded his practice to include Weimar and Smithville. During this busy season of life Happy & Sue welcomed their only daughter, Michelle. After several very busy years he sold his veterinary practices and went into business with his brother Malcolm at a beef production feedlot in Yoakum, TX. Here Happy & Sue welcomed their youngest son, David. Years later, Happy went back into Veterinary medicine becoming a jet set vet doing large herd work all over West Texas. Happy would later practice at a clinic in Mineola with his son, Frank, who also became a Veterinarian. Additionally, Happy started an embryo transfer business and school in Mineola which he greatly enjoyed. In his final years of practicing veterinary medicine, Happy returned to a great passion: an equine practice in San Antonio which he later expanded to Colorado as well.
In 2016 after a long battle with leukemia, Sue, Happy’s beloved wife of 56 years went to be with her Lord Jesus. Happy soon found his way back to his hometown of Marble Falls and married a high school sweetheart, Norma Carpenter Frasier. At the age of 85 he decided to retire (except of course for consultations and pro bono work for friends and family.)
Happy truly embodied his lifelong nickname. He rarely frowned, always had an encouraging word, and never missed an opportunity for a good joke or friendly tease. He loved to tell stories about his amazing life adventures. He was kind, extremely hard working, generous (sometimes to a fault.) He proudly helped send many family members, friends, and employees to college. He sacrificially gave to people in need by giving them jobs, encouragement, and most importantly showing them how to live a life serving God. His home always had a revolving door for those needing help and guidance. Because of his helping nature, he was also called on to facilitate fundraising for church plants and buildings.
Happy will be greatly missed by all his family and those who knew him. Although we will not enjoy this temporary separation, we have peace knowing he is now truly alive and reunited with family and friends and his Savior, Jesus Christ.
Happy is survived by his wife Norma Frasier Fluitt of Marble Falls, TX; his son Frank Fluitt, DVM and wife Stephanie of Weatherford, TX; his daughter Michelle Andrews and husband Mike of Kingwood, TX; his son David Fluitt and wife Misty of Ft. Worth, TX. He has eight grandchildren and spouses: Bryan and Kim Fluitt, Brandon and Sarah Fluitt, Brice and Amber Fluitt, Brady and Jordan Fluitt, Makayla Fluitt and Waylon Fluitt. Dr. Reid Andrews and wife Brittany, and Riley and wife Ciera Andrews. He has also been blessed with five great grandchildren: Braylee Fluitt, Gunner and Garrett Fluitt, and Sam and Cora Fluitt.
