He was preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife, Helen Ann Reed, his brother, Howard Reed, daughter-in-law Kelly Smith Reed, and grandson, Lester Shawn Keith.
Don is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Kristen and Lester Keith of Tyler, Texas, and sons, David Reed of Montgomery, Texas and Matthew Reed of Marietta, Georgia along with seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Don is also survived by his sister, Eleanor Menke, and three brothers, Frank, Walter and Maurice Reed along with multiple nieces and nephews.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a Veteran of the Korean War. He married Helen Ann Niece on September 2, 1950 in Fort Madison, Iowa. He was a graduate of General Motors Institute and retired from Buick Motor Division after more than 30 years of service. Don and Helen moved to Meadowlakes, Texas where he enjoyed his retirement with family and friends, playing golf, travelling, and service to his community. He also served two terms as the first Mayor of Meadowlakes, Texas.
Don was actively involved in all aspects of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church's operations, ministries and congregation, along with being a 4th Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus. Service to the church and his undying faith included RCIA Sponsor, Eucharistic Minister, ACTS ministry and a multitude of other roles and responsibilities within the Church.
A Rosary service in his honor will be held at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Marble Falls, Texas on September 24, 2019 at 7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be said at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at 10:00 am. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Don's life.
Don will be laid to rest at Lakeland Hills Cemetery in Burnet, Texas next to his cherished wife, Helen. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in his name to St. Jude's Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee or to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Marble Falls, Texas.
