Born in Lefor, North Dakota, on November 2, 1928, Rose was the daughter of the late Jacob and Theresa (Focht) Anton. She came to Mansfield in 1948 and married Leland “Mac” McKean on February 10, 1952, in First English Lutheran Church. Mac preceded her in death on October 14, 2011. Rose and Mac raised three sons—Gary, Dean and Jeff—all of the Mansfield area.
Rose worked for fifteen years at Therm-O-Disc: five years at Mansfield General Hospital: and another fifteen years at JCPenney before retiring in 1993. These years of employment led to lifelong friends, many of whom met for lunch, played cards, visited and otherwise stayed in touch.
Rose and her husband, Leland, were active and lifetime members of VFW Post #7651 in Ontario serving in leadership roles. Rose served as Guard and National Home Chair, and Leland as past Post Commander. A talented and wonderful cook, Rose delighted in reading cookbooks and trying new recipes. Neighborhood children could smell her cooking and baking and knew they were always welcome.
Rose is survived by her sons, Gary (Jane), and Dean (Sheila) McKean; daughter-in-law, Linda McKean; two brothers, Raymond (Virginia) Anton and Norman (Marlene) Anton; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to her late husband, Leland McKean, Rose is preceded in death by her parents; son, Jeff McKean; two sisters, Katherine (Robert) Coon and Loraine (Al) Schiff; and an infant sister.
The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 26, 2023, at Wappner Funeral Directors-Diamond, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. The funeral service conducted by Rev. Dallas Waggle will follow at 11:00 a.m. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in Mansfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to SouthernCare Hospice.
