Rose was a very kind and caring woman who loved children and was the true essence of a mother. She was an excellent cook and a wonderful crafts person and enjoyed quilting and sewing. Rose loved volunteering in the soup kitchen and helped with many other activities at St. Edward's Parish in Ashland. A devout Catholic, she was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and belonged to the Catholic Daughter's of America at St. Edward's Parish in Ashland and St. Mary's Catholic Church in Delaware, Ohio.
Rose is survived by her children, Catherine Dawson Winburn, Sarah (Eugene) Hudgins, Dorothy (Doug) Dawson-Sheldon, Elizabeth Dawson, Charles Dawson and Van (Rose) Brown; seven grandchildren, Michelle Dawson, Donald Winburn, Matthew Wimbish, Pamela Brown, Valarie Brown, Ashley Dawson and Danielle (Vincent) Vickers; great-grandchildren, Michael Dawson, Megan Dawson, Kyra Wimbish, Ada Messner, A'Marie Perdue, Avery Vickers, John Vickers and Vincent Vickers; and many close nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Dawson Sr.; son, John Dawson Jr.; and brothers, John W. Ellery, James Ellery, Raymond Ellery and Thomas "Bertie" Elery.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. on Friday, December 10, 2021 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield, Ohio 44902. A funeral service will follow beginning at 12:30 p.m. with Father John Miller officiating services. She will be laid to rest in Mansfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
