Roger Eugene Casler, 79, of Loudonville, passed away Monday morning, July 10, 2017, at his home. Born March 12, 1938, in Mansfield, Ohio, he was the son of the late Rev. Edwin L. and Edith Pearl (Berrier) Casler.
Roger had a giving heart and loved helping others, especially his family members. You always knew where you stood with him and he wasn't afraid to stand up for what he thought was right. Roger made many new friends while talking on his CB radio. A true outdoorsman, he enjoyed deer hunting and fishing and was a member of the North American Fishing Club. Roger served his country with the U.S. Army and retired from the Reserves.
By his own admission, Roger was a jack of all trades, but master of none. He was often found tinkering with this or that. He was a wonderful husband and father and his family is blessed with many special memories made throughout the years.
Roger is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Ruth A. Palser Casler; four children, Timothy (Kimberly) Casler, Trina Casler, Ronnie (Rose) Casler and Rodney (Sherry) Casler; fifteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; three sisters, Patricia Ash, Sylvia Hudson and Karen Lane; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three children, Michael Casler, Joseph Casler and Larissa Taylor; grandson, Billy Jo Taylor; and two brothers, Lawrence and Edwin Casler.
The family will receive friends from 3:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 13, 2017, at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. The funeral service will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home with additional visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest in Mansfield Cemetery.
