Robert Shaffer, 67, of Mansfield, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Akron General Hospital. He was born November 4, 1950, in Mansfield, Ohio, to the late Robert Shaffer and Naomi (Amert) Pasheilich.
He attended Lexington schools and graduated from Shelby Senior High School in 1969. He was a meat cutter for over 40 years and the owner of both E & B Market and Springmill Meats and Bakery. He retired from Geyer's Market and then worked part-time at Miller's in Ashland. Robert loved his motorcycle and bowled for many years. Weekly poker night with favorite friends were a special time. He was an avid sports fan and closely followed the OSU Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns, Cavaliers and Indians.
His grandsons were very special to him and he enjoyed many fishing adventures and cooking for them. Robert was very friendly and always smiling. He was quick to share an ornery joke with anyone who would listen. An all around good guy, he enjoyed cooking and working in his immaculate yard. He was an animal lover and had a special place in his heart for his beloved dogs, cats and birds.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Linda Drake Shaffer; one child, Nikki Maglott (David Devore); two grandchildren, Trevor Maglott, Trenton Maglott; two sisters, Sandy (Mike) Zerby and Pam (Mike) Weiler; four step siblings; step mother; sister-in-law, Evelyn Rogers; and brother-in-law, Roger (Paula) Drake Sr.; special friend, Mary Ward; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. In addition to his parents, Robert is preceded in death by his parents-in-law, Homer and Leona Drake; sister-in-law, Diane Smith; and a special friend, Pat Ward.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 3:00-6:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. A memorial service will immediately follow at 6:00 p.m. To honor Robert's love of Ohio sports, the family requests everyone come dressed in Ohio sports team clothing. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Richland County.
