Richard E. Wolford, 76, of Mansfield, Ohio died Thursday evening, February 8, 2001 at MedCentral Mansfield after complications he sustained from a farming accident. He was born January 31, 1925 to Martin H. & Mary Steward Wolford in Madison Twp. where he was a life long resident. He was a 1943 graduate of Madison High School. Mr. Wolford retired from ODOT and was a life long farmer. He was a member of the First English Lutheran Church, as well as Richland County Farm Bureau, Richland Rural Life Center and was a member of the Windsor Park Cemetery Board. Mr. Wolford had a passion for music, he directed the Mid-Ohio Band formerly the Gfrer Band. He played the trombone in the Ashland Community Band, the New Washington Band, The Bucyrus City Band and The Gang Band. The music he played will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ruth Geissinger Wolford of Mansfield; his only son and daughter-in-law, David & Gail Wolford of Mansfield; two daughters, Kathryn Wolford of Galion, Ohio and Mary Wolford of Mansfield; three grandchildren, Jeremy, Jolene and Jessica Wolford all of Mansfield; a brother and sister-in-law, William & Lutie Wolford of Ashland; a special cousin, Mary L. Ward of Mansfield; several nieces, nephews, cousins as well as numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin & Mary Wolford.
Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors on Sunday, February 11, 2001 from 2-4 and 6-8p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 13, 2001 at 1:00 p.m., conducted by Rev. Paul Larson and Rev. Dr. Gary Wilson. Interment will follow at Windsor Park Cemetery.
