Peg was born July 21, 1933, in Atlanta, Georgia, to Paul and Mildred (Rummel) Parsons. She came into this world during a thunderstorm where the power went out at the hospital during her breech birth. This started her life.
The first 5 years was spent moving 13 time to 4 different states, as her father was a buyer for Allied Department stores. Grade school and high school was in Milton, Massachusetts. She graduated from Milton High School and went on to the University of Massachusetts where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree. Her graduate work at the University earned her a Master's degree in Medical Entomology. While in graduate school, she worked for the U.S. Public Health Service on a mosquito borne encephalitis program. During this time in graduate school, she was honored by being recognized in Who's Who of American Women.
After graduation, she worked with the U.S. Army on a disease surveillance program covering the Southeastern portion of the U.S. For three years, Peg worked for the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) in Atlanta as a teacher for the public health system, training various health groups on how to identify insect borne diseases. She then moved to Lucas, Ohio, and took a job with the Ohio Department of Health in Columbus, heading a new vector borne disease unit established to identify encephalitis, spotted fever, Lyme Disease, and other vector borne diseases. Peg earned many awards for her work in her chosen field. She had many friends and associates all over the U.S. She was a past member of the Jared Mansfield Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution.
Peg retired in 1988 and spent the rest of her life enjoying what she loved the most: a variety of pets including horses, llamas, goats, dogs and cats. She leaves behind her favorite cat, Marmalade, who went with her to live in Mansfield Place Assisted Living.
She is survived by two cousins, Nancy (Jim) Niswander and Jean (Hank) Pohr, both of Lucas. She was preceded in death by her parents and a cousin, Janet Grover.
There will no visitation per Peg's request and burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Lucas at a future date.
The family wishes to thank the loving care given to Peg by the staff at Mansfield Place Assisted Living and Hospice of North Central Ohio. Contributions may be made in Peg's memory to Hospice of North Central Ohio, 1050 Dauch Drive, Ashland, Ohio 44805.
The Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors is honored to serve the family.
