She was born to Russell and Mary Alice Jacobs on July 29, 1957 in Mansfield, Ohio and grew up on the family farm. Linda graduated from Madison Comprehensive High School in 1975, where she went on to teach after receiving her M.Ed. from Ashland College in 1979. She married Lorn Knowlton in 1981, and they moved into her grandparents’ house on the farm. Linda taught English and German for 35 years until she retired in 2013. She was known for her unconditional kindness, her unending hospitality, and her fighting spirit in the face of cancer.
Linda is survived by her loving husband Lorn Knowlton and their three sons: Stephen Knowlton, his wife Kelly, and their three children Olive, Georgia, and Winifred, of Ashland; Derek Knowlton, of Mansfield; and Bryan Knowlton, of Columbus. She is also survived by her brothers: William Stuart and his wife, Kathy; Robert Jacobs and his wife, Elaine; Randy Jacobs and his wife, Mary Ann; Dan Jacobs; sister-in-law Ethel Jacobs; sister-in-law Charlene Hensel and her husband, Ed; and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends. Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Mary Alice Jacobs, of Mansfield; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lorn Sr. and Pearl Knowlton, of Ashland; and brothers Thomas Jacobs, of Mansfield, and Larry Jacobs, of Plano, Texas.
The family will receive friends at a visitation on Monday, Dec. 12, 2016 from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2016 from 10:00 - 11:00 a.n. at the Ashland Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 308 Claremont Avenue, Ashland, Ohio. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Wappner Funeral Directors, conducted by Pastor Mark Abel. Burial will follow in Windsor Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
