Kasandra "Sandy" Thompson, 70, of Mansfield, passed away Friday, November 10, 2017 at her home. Born September 11, 1947 in Richmond, Virginia, she was the daughter of James and Lula (Watts) Birchfield.
She retired from Woodlawn Nursing Home and was a life member of the VFW Post 3494 Ladies Auxiliary. A very nurturing lady who loved her family, she was always joking with everyone. She enjoyed knitting, cooking, good food, motorcycle rides with her son and watching TMC and the SciFi Network. Her greatest enjoyment was cooking for her grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons, George (Anna Webb) Thompson of Mansfield, Clyde Thompson, Jr. of Mansfield, Philip Thompson of Mansfield, Christopher McArdle of Columbus and Shawn (Frances Reynolds) McArdle of Mansfield; daughters, Violet (Jonathan) Alfrey of Mansfield and Amanda (Keith) Stacy of Marietta; 15 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; two brothers, James Birchfield and Jerry (Darlene) Birchfield both of Mansfield; two sisters, Lona Birchfield and Jeanette Dickison both of Mansfield; many nieces and nephews; good friend, Betty Myers of Mansfield; and her beloved pet chiuahua, Smokey.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde J. Thompson; two sons, John Thompson and Ernie Thompson, two brother, Larry Birchfield and George Allen Birchfield; two daughters-in-law, Lisa Racuya Thompson and Loretta Thompson; and a brother-in-law, Mack T. Dickison.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond Street, Mansfield. Friends may call one hour prior to the service, from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m., at the funeral home on Wednesday.
