Joyce A. Jacobs, 78, of Mansfield, Ohio passed away on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at home, with the love of her life by her side. She was born on July 10, 1938 in Crestline, Ohio, to Bill and Clara (Bailey) Laek.
Joyce was a very special lady, and she will be greatly missed. At the young age of 16 Joyce was diagnosed with Polio, but she never let that hold her back. She was truly one of a kind, and a great inspiration to everyone she met. She was caring, determined, and always prayed for everyone. She married the love of her life, Harold Jacobs, on April 15, 1967. Harold and Joyce were the best of friends, and they shared a love most people could only dream of. Joyce, although never having any children of her own; was a mother to many. She enjoyed watching the Cleveland Indians and cooking shows; she loved animals, especially her cats; and she was a very good cook. She also enjoyed motorcycle rides all over the county, with her favorite destinations being Salt River Canyon, and Phoenix and Flagstaff, Arizona.
Joyce was a graduate of Mansfield Senior High School. She worked as a switchboard operator at Mansfield General Hospital for 30 years, and was a member of GWRRA Chapter B.
Joyce is survived by her loving husband, Harold Jacobs; and cousin, Sandy Gearheart.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the wonderful caretakers and special friends that Joyce met along her 60 year journey with Polio.
In honoring Joyce's wishes, there will be no services. The Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors is privileged to serve the family. Memorial contributions may be made to Phillips Animal Hospital, 581 S. Main St. Mansfield, Ohio 44907.
