It is with great sadness that the family of Harry Herman Reynard, known as “Hap” by his friends, announces his passing on July 6, 2022, at age 100. He is survived by his sons Jon (Meg) Reynard and Brian Reynard. He will also be fondly remembered by grandchildren, Renee (Sean) O’Hara, Melissa Reynard, Rochelle Reynard, and Ryan Reynard; by great-grandchildren, Sean Jr. O’Hara and Cole O'Hara; and good friends Paul and Kay Simon. He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Alice.
Hap was born in Lucas, Ohio to Johnnes Herman Reynard and Beatrice Elexina (Kershner) Reynard and could trace his roots to include George Joh, a William Pen immigrant arriving in America in 1731. He was one of 4 children; two brothers Roy and Clayton, and one sister Isabelle. He graduated from Lucas High School in 1940. He married Alice May Schnuerer on August 13, 1950, and would go on to raise two children with her in Mansfield, Ohio.
Following graduation, he worked as a welder and machinist in Elyria, Ohio before joining the Army Air Corps in 1942. He served in the Pacific Theater, based in Hawaii, and was a flight engineer for B25, A26, and B29 aircraft. After leaving the service, he purchased and operated a Marathon Service Station in Lucas, Ohio, and helped to form the Lucas Veterans Club. Later, he began a career in Interior Design at Dale’s Home Furnishings in Sandusky, Ohio. He completed a course in design at the Chicago School of Design. Upon moving to Mansfield, Ohio he continued to work in Interior Design and founded his own interior design business, Reynard Interiors, in 1969 until retiring a few years ago.
He was a Main Street United Methodist Church member and active in many social organizations. As a member of the Lions Club, he received a Melvin Jones Award. He was a 32 Degree Mason and a member of Lodge Venus 125. He was active in the Kentucky Colonels, the Elks, the Baku Grotto, Liederkranz, a lifetime member of the American Legion, and active in many golf leagues. Hap also had many fond memories of joining morning groups for coffee and chatting at V&M, Mansfield Restaurant, and other local areas.
He is very thankful for all the kind care given to him by the Western Reserve Masonic Home in Medina, Ohio, and the support and care provided by Southern Care Hospice.
A private “Celebration of Life” will be held for family and friends. Those who so desire may make memorial donations in memory of Harry to the Main Street United Methodist Church or a charity of their choosing. The Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors is honored to service the Reynard family.
