Gerry "Gary" Lee Welch, 78, of Mansfield passed away at Ohio State University Hospital on Thursday, December 21, 2017. Gerry was born on June 13, 1939 in Mount Vernon, Ohio to Morris and Thelma (Houbler) Welch.
Gerry was a dedicated father and grandfather and beloved by all of his friends. Gerry was a social man who enjoyed the company of others and valued his friends and family. He took pride in his service in the United States Army. Gerry spent his career and retired from the Ohio Brass. He was a member of the Mansfield First Assembly of God and a member of Socialables and Faith Communities. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing cards especially euchre, hunting, enjoying a good cup of coffee and in his younger days he enjoyed drag racing.
Surviving are his children, Dentia Scott of Galion and Danielle (Bradley) Binion of Savannah, GA; brother, Terry (Nancy) Welch of Fredericktown, OH; grandchildren, Timmy Back of Daytona Beach, FL, Kyle (Heidi) Back of Ontario, Sarah (Shqune) Thomas of Lansing, MI, and Wyatt Binion of Savannah, GA; great-grandchildren, Alexandra and Tristan Back of Whitney, TX, Evee, Lynkyn and Steel Back of Ontario, OH, and Shaynne Thomas of Lansing, MI; father-in-law and mother-in-law of daughter Danielle, Garry (Kathy) Binion; and many close friends. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Christine Welch; sister, Beverly Berger; and son, Douglas Welch.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2:00-3:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at Mansfield First Assembly of God Church, 1000 Mc.Pherson Street. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m. officiated by Rev. Thomas Blair at the church. The Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors is honored to serve the family of Gary Welch.
