Carl Otto Heidrich, 71, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, October 31, 2018, at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. Carl was born November 23, 1946, in Birkenfeld, Germany to Hans and Lieselotte (Schwantusch) Heidrich.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Frankfurt, Germany and the Vietnam War. Carl was a life member of Amvets Post #26, Mansfield Moose and Lexington Elks. He graduated from Mansfield Senior High School, Class of 1965. Carl retired from Galion, LLC (Valentec) in 2008 after serving as Plant Manager and President. He previously had been employed at Mansfield Tire and Rubber Co. in quality control and safety service, and Design Metal Products in quality control and plant management. Carl was a dedicated, hard worker, but also liked to laugh and have fun. He enjoyed his motorcycles and his main hobby was cars of all kinds. His favorite was the '68 Olds 442.
Carl is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Sharon (Merschdorf) Heidrich; step mother, Sibylle (Van Kampfe) Heidrich; brothers-in-law, John (Mary Jane) Merschdorf and Gerald (Billie) Merschdorf; sisters-in-law, Susan (Wayne) Sellers and Beverly Kunze; nephews, Darin Sheldon, Michael (Renee) Kunze, and Kevin (Joy) Merschdorf; nieces, Shawn (Charles) Kirby and Jennifer Phipps; and numerous great-nieces and nephews who loved him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Lutz Kunze; parents-in-law, George and Dorothy Merschdorf; and several cherished dogs.
Friends and family may visit from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 3, 2018, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. conducted by Celebrant Mark Dettmer. Private interment will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be considered to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or OhioHealth Hospice, Mansfield, Ohio.
