

Bennie "Ben" Young, of Mansfield, passed away early Thursday morning, June 8, 2017, at Country Meadows Care Center. He was 91 years old. Born June 11, 1925, in Holmes County, Ohio, he was the son of the late Tom and Cecil (Peterman) Young.
Ben joined the US Navy at the age of 17 and was a gunner during WWII aboard the USS Yorktown. Along with his shipmates, he successfully completed many missions throughout his naval career. Upon his discharge, he returned to Mansfield and began working at Mansfield Tire and Rubber Co. After his retirement, he began a new business of his own, Duraclean, and worked hard for many more years. Ben enjoyed watching football games and trying his luck at various casinos.
He is survived by two daughters, Doris (Bob) Frasher and Benita Wiseman; five grandchildren, Todd (Paula) Weaver, Tina Phillips, Jim (Sue) Frasher, Stephanie (Andrew) Ovens, Heather (Jeff) Frazier; several great and great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Alberta Gutchel.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Young; daughter, Marge Weaver; grandson, Brian Blevins; siblings, Mary Ellen Milhoan and Warren Young; and special friend, Edith Cyrus.
The family will receive friends beginning at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The funeral service conducted by Rev. Paul Larson will follow at 1:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest beside his wife in Mansfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Southern Care Hospice.
