Sharon M. Smith, 73 of Manchester passed away peacefully at home with her loving family by her side on Friday, June 12th. Sharon was born in Jersey City, NJ on September 9th, 1946 to parents Thomas and Marion O'Connor. She grew up in Jersey City and attended Saint Dominic Academy. Upon graduation, Sharon worked as an administrative assistant for several years while raising her three children. In 1976, she met her soul mate, James Smith. Sharon and James married in 1979 and remained in Jersey City with their family until 1988 when they relocated to Splendora, Texas. In 1997, Sharon and Jim returned to New Jersey and settled in Manchester Twp. It is here that she remained until her passing. Sharon spent a great amount of her working years in the healthcare profession. For the past ten years and until her passing, she worked at Spring Oak assisted living in Toms River as a certified medication assistant. Sharon, although successful at her job, she was never more accomplished than in her career as a mother and grandmother. She loved going to the beach and spending countless hours reading but her true passion was her grandchildren. She truly adored each and everyone and loved spending time with them. Sharon, albeit well known for her chocolate chip cookies, it was her caring and warm loving personality and touch that will be sorely missed by family and friends alike. Sharon was predeceased by her parents Thomas and Marion O'Connor, her brother, Gerard O'Connor, her sons, Frederick Burke Jr, Michael Burke, and step daughter, Susan P. Smith. Surviving is her husband of 40 years James Smith, brothers, Thomas O'Connor of Somerset, NJ, James O'Connor and his wife Sandy of Spring, TX, her sister-in-law, Shirley Hover of Forked River, NJ, her daughter Melissa and her husband Mickey McKittrick of Bayonne, NJ, step son Scott Smith of Bronx, NY, step son, Thomas W. Smith and his wife Tricia of Ewing, NJ, daughter-in-law, Laura Ortiz of White Plains, NY, her 10 grandchildren, Courtney, Lauren, Michael A., Caitlin, Brett, Thomas, Megan, Michael D., Mallori, Michael S., Five great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and close friends. Due to the recent pandemic, there will be a private family visitation on Wednesday, June 17th at the Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, Manchester. Immediately following, there will be a mass offered at noon at St John's Church in Lakehurst. We will be following the current guidelines as set forth in the Governor's executive order.
