ROBERT E. WILSON (Bobby) received his gold medal on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at age 39, after running a long, challenging race. Bobby was born on December 9,1984, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, to Glenn J. Wilson & Maribel Wilson, the first of four children. He was mild-mannered and brought much joy to the entire family. He attended elementary school at the Matthew Jago Elementary School in Sewaren. The family attended Monte Carmelo church under Pastor Luis Santiago, where Bobby and his siblings became grounded in Christian teachings. The family relocated to Lakewood, NJ in 1994 and Bobby continued his education there until graduation. After graduation, Bobby enrolled in the Criminal Justice Program at Ocean County College, Toms River, where he received an Associates Degree. Bobby served faithfully with his family at Restoration Family Worship Center, Howell, NJ,t where his parents pastor, until his passing.
The ability to navigate the life that brought him to adulthood was one marked by many health challenges, doctor visits, hospital stays, and eventually a kidney transplant. Bobby was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes at age two, and he was thrust into a lifetime of ups and downs. Yet, he remained resilient, determined and committed to his purpose.
He enrolled at Capri Institute, Brick, New Jersey, where he completed the Cosmetology program and worked as a barber for several salons. He was also a personal trainer, and many are still feeling the effects. Bobbyʼs passion was always music, and he spent much time in his room creating beats, writing and creating digital music. He worked with friends on music marketing, and most recently began his DJ-ing stint as DJ BobbyWattZ.
Together with his parents, Bobby was raising his two sons who were the love of his life: Jhayden, 18 and Adrian, 16. They are now carriers of the legacy of strength and resilience demonstrated by their father.
His cousins often joked about Bobbyʼs unwillingness to participate in their chats. As a man on a mission, he was impatient with things he considered timewasters. (“Iʼm about my fatherʼs business”). Yet, he enjoyed a good belly laugh that came as an afterthought at times. He enjoyed times spent with his family and knew they were his support system.
Because of his low-key, straight-forward approach to life and because he rarely complained, most never knew that Bobby ministered to so many of his friends on a personal level. The outpouring of testimonies is proof of a life lived with purpose. At times his pulpit was a bed, a place of employment or a chance encounter, but Bobby was a minister of the gospel! He did follow in his fatherʼs legacy in a more subdued manner, but one that got the attention of His heavenly father. Bobby was held in high esteem in heavenly places and was welcomed to his eternal home because his race here had ended with a win!
Bobby leaves to cherish his memory his two sons, Jhayden & Adrian Wilson, his parents, Pastors Glenn J. & Maribel Wilson, Jackson, NJ; three siblings: Nicole Palmer(Michael), Manchester; Glenn J. Wilson, Jr.(Ajoni), Toms River; Andrew(Aviana), Jackson; nieces and nephews: Selah, Sienna, Michael, Jr., Addison & Glenn Jr. & Ajoniʼs upcoming addition; a host of uncles, aunts and cousins, his church family & many friends.
