GEORGE C. MARSHALL, 87, of Forked River, LACEY, died peacefully Monday November 5, 2018. Born in Ithaca, NY, the beloved only child of Clifford and Berenice Marshall, and raised in Bordentown, NJ, Marshall served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. Upon his return, he was lucky enough to meet his German immigrant bride, Helga M. Marshall (Helga passed away in 2007), while at the lake beach in Barnegat Pines. After a short romance, the two were wed and raised their three children in Forked River.
Marshall was an avid outdoorsman spending his free time in the summer fishing, clamming, crabbing on Barnegat Bay and off shore fishing. The fall was spent waterfowl hunting and bow and arrow hunting. His love for water fowling led him into decoy carving and over the years he gained notoriety winning numerous competitions with many blue ribbons hanging on the wall. George was a common sight at the Tuckerton Decoy Show and the Seaport as an exhibitor and carver demonstrator. In 2013, he was nominated NJDCA (New Jersey Decoy Carver Association) Carver of the Year.
George was a devoted husband, family man and a standup community person who spent time coaching baseball and supporting other of his children’s activities.
His legacy leaves behind three successful children and their spouses: daughter and son in-law Susan and Robert Torre of Medford, NJ; son and daughter in-law Gene and Karin Marshall of Forked River, NJ; son and daughter in-law George and Kimberlee Marshall of Saratoga, NY; and ten wonderful grandchildren. His grandchildren span the country from New Jersey to Rhode Island and from Maine to Colorado.
There will be a private military service planned for the family.
