Charles J. Grosso,94, passed away peacefully on May 6. He was predeceased by his spouse of 69 years Eva. He is survived by his loving sons Dr. Peter Grosso (whose wife, Robin, passed away in 2021) and James Grosso, Esq. and his wife Dawn. He is also survived by his granddaughters Christina Grosso Stanton and her husband Jacob, Lynne Grosso Howard and her husband Joe, Jill Mayes, Jenny Mayes, two great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends at the Renaissance, who quickly became extended family.
Remembered most noticeably for his dry sense of humor and infectious personality. He could always use humor to lighten the mood and bring everyone in the room to laughter.
Charlie grew up in Guttenberg, New Jersey where he first met his wife Eva. Following his graduation from Weehawken High School, he enlisted in the United States Army. After serving overseas in Germany, he returned to the US and married the love of his life.
He had a very strong work ethic. He started working as a furniture upholsterer for a small furniture shop, before working in the construction industry for the large majority of his life. He worked for Tishman Construction and then Structure Tone, managing the construction on some of the landmark high rise buildings in New York City. Charlie could fix anything and was always working around the house maintaining, repairing, or adding to it. He continued to upholster furniture and also hung custom drapes in the off hours and weekends while he worked in the construction industry.
He served as the guiding light for his two sons, their wives, and his granddaughters. He coached many of his sons' sports teams and attended all their games. He always kept them focused on their education, and reminded them that their schooling should not interfere with their education. He provided level headed advice when it was needed.
Charlie retired over twenty-five years ago to the Renaissance in Manchester, NJ, to pursue another love of his - golf. When not golfing, he managed some Bocce Teams, regularly attended Renaissance Rebel Softball Games, played cards, travelled the world, and was a member of several community clubs at the Renaissance. He loved spending time with family and friends. Anyone visiting the house was always welcomed with a Manhattan or Bourbon Old Fashioned and that dry sense of humor. He will be deeply missed, much, much more than his frequent saying: "like a moose misses a hat rack".
