Major Warren A. Nightingale

Major Warren A. Nightingale (USAFR Retired), 73, died March 16, 2012 at Concord Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born in Manchester on March 26, 1938, the son of the late George A. and Annie (LaBelle) Nightingale.

He was raised in Manchester and graduated from Bishop Bradley High School. He furthered his education at St. Anselm College, Northeastern University and received a Master’s degree from Rivier College.

Mr. Nightingale served United States Air Force as a decorated major. He retired from the US Air Force Reserve after 30 years of service. He was a teacher for over 30 years and began his career in Auburn and Chester. He was employed by the Manchester School District as a mathematics teacher at Green Acres School for many years until his retirement in 1997. He also served as a court officer for the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Department and was employed as a security officer at the New Boston Tracking Station and the New Hampshire Union Leader.

Warren was a communicant of St. Joseph Cathedral parish. His wife of 38 years, Mary Elizabeth (Doyle) Nightingale died in December 1996.

He was a member of the 1000 Men of the Precious Blood and the American Legion Post 23 of Milford NH.

Family members include five daughters, Kathleen Trisciani of Manchester, Susan Picknell of Sunapee, NH, Karen Nightingale of Hampton NH, Kristin DeMaio of Kensington, CT and Kerriann Nightingale of Barrington, NH; two sons, W. Alan Nightingale of Deering NH and Jonathan Nightingale of Manchester; and 11 grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by an infant Daughter, Sandra and an infant son, Robert.

Calling hours were on Tuesday from 4 to 7 PM in the McHugh Funeral Home, 283 Hanover St., corner of Beech St. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday at 9:30 AM in St. Joseph Cathedral, corner of Pine and Lowell Sts. Burial with full military honors followed in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford.
