Joseph E. Cloutier

Joseph E. Cloutier, 82, of Manchester, died December 11, 2011 at his residence after a lengthy illness. He was born on September 7, 1929 in Nashua the son of Joseph T. and Catherine (Rich) Cloutier. His family relocated to Lincoln, NH where Joe was raised by his father and stepmother Sylvina Cloutier following the death of his mother. He was educated in the Lincoln School System and was a graduate of Lincoln High School where he was a member of the varsity basketball team. He also enjoyed hiking the mountains in the Lincoln area.

Following his graduation, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 1946 and served with the Second Marine Division. He was discharged with the rank of corporal in 1948. He was recalled to active duty in 1950 during the Korean Conflict and was discharged in 1952 having attained the rank of sergeant.

He married the former Doris McNally in 1950 and together they shared 61 years of marriage. They moved to Manchester in 1960 where Joe joined the Manchester Police Department and retired in 1981 after 21 years of service. After his retirement he was employed by Digital Equipment Corporation.

He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Derryfield Country Club. He also held membership in the Elks Club and the Henry J. Sweeney Post. He was the past commander of the Joseph Newton Smith Post of Lincoln.

Members of his family include his wife Doris Cloutier of Manchester, his daughters Ann Marie Mailloux and her husband Robert of Winter Haven FL and Jeannie Murphy and her husband Daniel of Manchester, five grandchildren Trisha Ballbach and her husband William of Londonderry, Kelly Duprey and her husband Tom of Merrimack, Justin Murphy of Manchester, Stefanie Mailloux of Tucson AZ and Catherine Mailloux of Winter Haven FL, his great-grandchildren Caitlin Murphy, Keith Field, Brigid Murphy, Joseph Mailloux-Griffin and Nora Duprey and a special aunt Margaret Britton of Concord. He was predeceased by his stepbrother Robert White.

Calling hours were held on Thursday December 15, 2011 from 10AM to noon at the McHugh Funeral Home 283 Hanover St corner of Beech St. Manchester followed by a Memorial Service in the funeral home. A committal service with military honors was held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Manchester. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Joseph’s name to the Manchester Police Relief Association 351 Chestnut St. Manchester, NH 03101, the American Heart Association 2 Wall St. Room 104 Manchester, NH 03101 or Home Health and Hospice Care 593 Maple St. Manchester, NH 03104.
