Known to all for his kind and generous heart, David was a man who continually shared his light and love with friends and family. His empathetic nature made him an outstanding educator and counselor. He was born in Manchester, NH on May 24, 1944 and passed away on August 27, 2022.
Following graduation from the (then) Bishop Bradley High School in 1962, he joined the Brothers of the Christian Schools, a religious teaching order, and graduated from the Catholic University of Washington DC with a degree in English. He earned a Master's Degree at NY University and then taught at Bishop Laughlin HS in Brooklyn. Following his departure from the Order, he taught in Great Neck, NY and more recently was a teacher and guidance counselor in the Manchester, NH Public Schools. He earned an additional Master's Degree (in counseling) at Notre Dame College in Manchester.
David made it easy to connect with his large circle of friends, based on his interest in such varied topics as novels, movies, theater, and travel. In his final days at the Villa Crest Nursing Home, he bravely continued to meet and greet newcomers and friends, despite being wheelchair-bound. He made and maintained long-lasting friendships throughout his life.
David was the son of William Hendry and Elizabeth (Hendry) Reen, both deceased. He leaves behind his twin brother Ed (better known as "Joey" to him), brother William, sister-in-law Jo, nephew Owen and many other nieces and nephews.
A service to honor his memory will be held at the McHugh Funeral Home (283 Hanover Street, Manchester, NH 03104) on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 from 5-7PM. In lieu of flowers, family and friends are invited to send donations to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation of NY.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.McHughFuneralHome.com for the Hendry family.
