Clifford James Young Jr.

Clifford James Young Jr., 85, of Northwood, NH, passed away peacefully on November 3. He passed away due to a long, courageous and hard fought battle with cancer. On his final day, he was surrounded by his children and grandchildren, who he was more proud of than anything in the world.

He was born and raised on the West Side of Manchester, NH and was always proud to call it home. After graduating from West High School, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and in 1960 was stationed at Suffolk County Air Force Base, Westhampton Beach, New York where he met his wife of 60 years.

He served in the NH National Guard and the United States Air Force as a Technical Sergeant for 34 memorable and proud years and traveled the world, living in New York, Okinawa, Japan, South Carolina, Hahn, Germany, and California. While in the Air Force, he served in Korea and the Vietnam War.

He retired from the Air Force in 1976 and settled with his wife and children in Northwood, NH where they have lived for the last 45 years. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked in shipping and receiving at Cambion in Pittsfield, NH as well as a custodian at Coe Brown Northwood Academy, attended by all of his children, and Nottingham Elementary School.

Cliff was always being funny with his Irish humor and especially loved being silly around his grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lynne VanVessen Young of Northwood and their 5 children, Sharon Young of Concord, Clifford Young III of Litchfield, Mary Farrar (Steve), of Northwood, Polly Finlayson (Ronald) of Hopkinton and Cornelius Young (Alexandra) of Needham, MA and 12 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, his brother-in-law Robert J. VanVessen (Betty Ann) of Felton, DE, his sister Pamela Y. Lake (Ellsworth) of Jericho, VT, cousins, nieces, nephews and many great nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his grandson Patrick Graham, Sister, Delores Bean and Brother, John Young.

Calling hours for Clifford will be held Thursday, November 10, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Saint Raphael Parish, 103 Walker St, Manchester, NH. A funeral mass will occur Thursday, November 10, 2022 at 11:00 AM, 103 Walker Street, Manchester, NH. A burial will occur Thursday, November 10, 2022 at 12:30 PM at Pine Grove Cemetery, 765 Brown Ave, Manchester, New Hampshire 03103.
