Clare M. O’Donnell, 91, of Bedford, died September 11, 2018 at the Catholic Medical Center after a period of declining health. Shew was born in Runnemede, NJ on December 23, 1926 the daughter of Russell and Elinor (Moore) Stiles. She grew up in Moorestown, NJ, was educated in the local school system and was a graduate of Moorestown High School.
Following her graduate, Clare attended Cooper Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1947 and starting her career as a surgical nurse at the Cooper Hospital in Camden, NJ. In 1951, she was married to her high school sweetheart, John H. O’Donnell and together they shared 44 years of life, love and laughter until his passing in 1995. She was the consummate homemaker caring for her family and travelling the country when her husband’s career as a manager with the Honeywell Corporation took them to such locales as Seattle, Anaheim, St. Louis and Dayton. After his retirement in 1995, the settled in Manchester to be with their daughter. Clare was a lady of many talents and interests. She was an avid bridge player, enjoyed baking and cross stitching and cheering for her favorite team, the Philadelphia Phillies. She will be fondly remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend.
She was predeceased by her husband John O’Donnell and her brother Albert Stiles.
Members of her family include her daughter Maureen O’Donnell of Manchester and her sister-in-law Amy Stiles of Taiwan as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation was held on Friday September 14 from 5 to 7 pm at the McHugh Funeral Home 283 Hanover St. corner of Beech St. in Manchester. A Funeral Service was celebrated on Saturday September 15 at 10 am in the funeral home. Burial followed in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations in Clare’s name be made to the New Hampshire Food Bank 700 East Industrial Pk.
