May 24, 1944 to October 10, 2023
It is with saddened and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Zoe M. Miller, a loving, caring, and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Zoe’s journey on this Earth came to an end on October 10, 2023 while she was surrounded by her immediate family, whom she loved so dearly. She will be incredibly and so deeply missed by her husband, daughters Ashley Weiss, Courtney Hanrahan, and Blake Vossekuil; sons in law AJ, Mark, and BJ; as well as her seven grandchildren, Reese, Breckin, Taelyn, Quinn, Teagan, Hayes, and Hunter. She was 79 years old.
Zoe is survived by the love of her life, her husband of 54 years, Frank, and their three beautiful daughters. Frank and Zoe’s love story was out of a storybook, meeting in November 1968 and falling deeply in love as young twenty-year-olds. They began a loving courtship for a year before marrying the following November 1969. They started their life and family together in New Jersey and eventually moved to Mercer Island, Washington for a short time before settling in Amherst, New Hampshire for 18 years where they raised their daughters and continued their love story as a couple. Their journey brought them to Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania for a decade before retiring in Smithville, New Jersey.
Zoe’s pride, love, and devotion to her family were apparent to all as she loved to talk about her daughters and grandchildren any chance she’d get. She relished her role as a mother but even more so as a loving and doting grandmother known as Nanni to her seven beautiful, adoring grandchildren. Her favorite thing was to watch her grandchildren play sports, attending various soccer, basketball, and softball games (rain or shine). She was their biggest cheerleader on the sidelines and was immensely proud of their achievements on and off the field/court.
Zoe had an unwavering passion for life and lived every minute to the fullest. She and Frank traveled the world together and made the most of every moment of their lives. She loved to dance and loved music from the 50s and 60s and it was common that you would see her tapping her foot or moving her hips to the beat of songs. Her sense of humor and laughter truly filled a room so much so that Frank often referred to her as Miss Effervescent and “the best looking woman in the room.” She was a staunch Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies fan and passed down her fandom to her grandchildren.
Born on May 24, 1944 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Zoe (born Zoe Miller) was the daughter of the late Eugene Newton Miller and the late Helen Miller (née McGarrigan). She was one of six siblings. Zoe leaves behind her sister Jeannine Jurman and brother Daniel Miller. She was raised in a proud Irish family and had an extremely strong bond with her extended family, who often looked to her as a mother figure.
Zoe was a graduate of Collingswood High School where she was an exceptional multisport athlete lettering in three sports. She then moved onto Trenton State College where she graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in elementary education, which led to a decades-long career as a teacher. She was adored by her students and colleagues and left behind a legacy of learning to all she taught.
A memorial service at Saint Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, 591 New Jersey Ave., Absecon, NJ will be held Tuesday, November 2, 2023.
