Joseph Giacalone 88 of Manahawkin, NJ passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side. Predeceased by his wife MaryAnn. Joseph is survived by his two daughters JoAnn D'Anton and her husband Victor and Doreen Ferraro and her husband Mark. Four grandchildren, Victoria, Anthony, Joseph and Nicolina and his best friend Brody Dog. Two sisters Dorathea Albano and Margaret Trento and many nieces and nephews. Originally from Newark, NJ Joseph lived in Bloomfield for 40 years before retiring to Manahawkin. He served in the Army from 1951-1953 as a field wireman during the Korean War. Joseph worked for PSE&G for 39 years as a grade one mechanic machinist. He loved making homemade wine with his father and passed on the tradition with his own family. Joseph enjoyed reading the "Italian Tribune" and was an avid crossword and crypto quote enthusiast. He loved fishing, crabbing and clamming with his wife and family on the "African Queen." Joseph was a member of the Stafford Twp. Italian American Club, Beach Haven Moose #1575 and the Stafford Twp. Old Guard. Joseph was a beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend. Visitation will be at the Thos L Shinn Funeral Home, 10 Hilliard Drive, Manahawkin, NJ 08050 on Saturday from 3-5PM, 7-9PM. A funeral mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 3, 2017 at 1:00PM at St. Mary's of the Pines, 100 Bishop Lane, Manahawkin, NJ 08050. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington on Wednesday, July 5, 2017. Condolences may be sent to our website at www.shinnfuneralhome.com.
