Harry is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 39 years, Donna Snyder, his loving children, Susan and Christopher Langston of Copper Canyon, TX, Christopher and Suzanne Snyder of Howell, NJ, Jonathan and Kirstin Buchanan of Colorado Springs, CO and Merrilee and Collin Stemmer of Manahawkin, NJ. He is also survived by his six cherished grandchildren, Timothy, Brianna, Jessica, Jolene, Ryan and Riley and two great-grandchildren.
His son, Harry Joseph Snyder III predeceased him.
Born in Newark, NJ, grew up in North Arlington, NJ, Harry also resided and raised his children in South Orange, NJ prior to moving to Manahawkin. He is a graduate of Queen of Peace High School. As student-body president at Queen of Peace and a three-sport athlete in baseball, captain of his basketball team as well as captain and quarterback of his football team, he earned the title of “Mr. Wonderful.” He attended Seton Hall University and Rutgers University, where he received a Bachelor's degree in Business.
Harry was a proud Marine, serving his country from 1958 to 1962 with multiple decorations. He was most proud to be selected to serve on the Honor Guard at President Kennedy’s inauguration. Prior to his time in the service, Harry was invited to try out for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Upon his honorable discharge from the Marines, he enjoyed a long career in industrial sales, spending the last twenty-five years with Franklin Miller, Inc. in Livingston, NJ, retiring in 2013.
Harry coached both of his sons' Little League Team; he was a die-hard Yankee fan and a forever Jet fan. He always enjoyed a good meal, trips shared with family and a well-stirred cocktail. He was a past Exalted Ruler of BPOE Lodge # 1992 in North Arlington, NJ.
He will be forever missed.
Viewing hours will be held Wednesday, April 20, 2022 from 2:00pm-4:00pm and 7:00pm-9:00pm at the Thos L. Shinn Funeral Home, 10 Hilliard Dr., Manahawkin, NJ. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, April 21, 2022 at 10:00am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Long Beach Blvd, Brant Beach, NJ with a Committal Service to follow at Brig. General William C. Doyle Veteran Cemetery, 350 Province Line Rd., Wrightstown, NJ.
