Vernon Emilia Young

She was retired from the Kanawha County Board of Education. She taught math for 30 years in Boone, Clay and Kanawha Counties. Vernon was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Kanawha City.

Vernon was preceded in death by her husband, Kester Young; parents, Fred and Lena Foltz; brother, Fred Foltz, Jr.

She is survived by her daughter, Michele Sturey; grandson, Anthony Sturey both of Charleston; nieces, Kathy Pinelli and Karen Numziata (Paul); nephew, Fred Foltz, III; great-nieces and great-nephews; sister-in-law, Shirley McDonald. She is also survived by her close cousins, Donna Calzacorto, L.D. Camino and John Allen Camino and Hilda McShane. Also surviving are her close friends, Arvada Johnson, Sandy Jean, Pam Coleman, Patti Raeshinn, Wilma and Ed Jarrell, Helen College, Jenny and Jack Adkins and Annette and James Carroll.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday September 27, 2023 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Kanawha City with Father Jose Manuel Escalante officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston.

A visitation with family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to Kanawha Hospice Care, 1606 Kanawha Blvd W., Charleston, WV 25387.
