Shirley was born in Charleston on April 30, 1946, to the late Harry and Phoeba Layton. She was a retired braille aide for the blind at Kanawha County Board of Education and also taught many years at Fair Haven Christian School. She was a 46 year member of Esta Memorial Baptist Church where she faithfully taught Sunday School for those 46 years and sang in the choir.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Roy, Wayne and Danny Layton.
Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Pastor Randy Wilson; daughter, Molly Gail (John) Kinsey of Emporia, Virginia; sister, Marilyn (Bernard) Hudnall of St. Albans; granddaughters, Sarah (Greg) Carter of Wilson, North Carolina and Rebekah (Caleb) O’Day of Emporia, Virginia; great-grandchildren, Greg, Sadie and Luke Carter, all of Wilson, North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.
A service honoring Shirley’s home going will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 18, 2024, at Esta Memorial Baptist Church with Pastors John Kinsey and Greg Reese officiating. Entombment will follow at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.
A visitation with family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at the Church.
